Fledermaus Forever

2023
with Tom Goossens, Mitch Van Landeghem & Muziektheater Transparant

In Fledermaus Forever, eight actors continue the tradition of staging Die Fledermaus indefinitely. The tradition of continuing to stage Die Fledermaus is remarkable. Every year on New Year's Eve, the operetta is performed somewhere in Europe. In Fledermaus Forever, eight actors continue this tradition indefinitely on a single evening. Just as the characters want to reach the party in the second act at all costs, these actors want to keep performing this pleasure piece at all costs. With the resources at their disposal, they adapt their casting, music, and text to ensure the story is performed again and again. In the urge to keep partying, to keep performing, there is both something beautiful and something very sad. The work Die Fledermaus embodies this urge, both in its narrative and in its performance practice. In short, it is the ideal musical play to get one step closer to the answer to the question: why keep performing, why keep partying?

“A grotesque comedy with comic characters and slapstick, which receives a generous dose of laughable pathos through rhyming dialogue and song. It is a nod to and a pastiche of the operetta genre. Live music on piano, cello, and accordion brings Strauss II to life in a quirky way, with successful arrangements of Les Âmes Perdues … It makes Fledermaus Forever unpretentious, entertaining theater with a catchy soundtrack. Again next year?”
Nina Dillen in De Tijd

A colorful feast in a comedic straitjacket. The witty, mischievous Fledermaus Forever dresses the famous Strauss operetta in and out. This production brings together a group of multi-talents.
